Health Innovation Challenge Fund - Round 10

Invention for Innovation (i4i) - 8th call for Product Development Awards

Closing date: 09 July 2014 Publish date: 14 May 2014

NIHR i4i supports translational R&D projects aimed at cultivating new techniques or technologies into innovative interventions which address existing or emerging healthcare needs. i4i will support projects developing innovative medical technology including medical devices, active implantable devices and in vitro diagnostic devices. i4i will also support projects which utilise and develop techniques or technologies from other industry sectors that could have a potential impact if applied in a healthcare setting.

The deadline for submission of Stage 1 (outline) applications is 9 July 2014, 1pm.

Policy Research Programme: Call for Stage 1 Outline Applications

Closing date: 12 August 2014 Publish date: 01 July 2014

The Department of Health Policy Research Programme invites applications in the following area: 

• Evaluation of the integrated care and support Pioneers programme in the context of new funding arrangements for integrated care in England 

This is a two-stage application process.  The deadline for receipt of stage 1 applications is 1pm on 12 August 2014.  Any applications submitted after the 1pm deadline will not be considered. 

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their stage 1 application approximately nine weeks after the submission date.  Researchers with applications shortlisted at stage 1 will be invited to submit a stage 2 application which will need to be submitted by 18 November 2014.

Programme Development Grants - Invitation for applications

Closing date: 14 October 2014 Publish date: 10 June 2014

Applications are invited for Programme Development Grant funding. Programme Development Grants are designed to increase the rate and number of successful applications for a full Programme Grant by supporting the completion of the necessary preparatory work to suitably position the research team to submit a competitive Stage 2 Programme Grant application. Individual awards are for a maximum of £100k over a period of six to eighteen months. The amount of funding awarded, however, is determined by the scale and nature of the research activity to be conducted. Successful applicants, on completion of their development work, proceed straight to a Stage 2 Programme Grant application.

Please note, in addition to usual commissioning arrangements, researchers can apply to the Long-term Conditions in Children and Young People Themed Call through this competition.

Programme Grants for Applied Research - applications invited

Closing date: 07 October 2014 Publish date: 03 June 2014

The NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research programme invites Stage 1 research proposals to develop individual programmes. Research funded through a Programme Grant typically consists of an interrelated group of high quality projects focused on a coherent theme and hence require multidisciplinary approaches, including clinical, health economics, statistics, qualitative and behavioural sciences, to ensure that research objectives can be met. The amount awarded and the length of the funding period will depend on the nature of the proposed work, in particular whether or not the proposal includes a substantial powered trial.

Please note, in addition to usual commissioning arrangements, researchers can apply to the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) call through this competition.

Research for Patient Benefit Programme - invitation for applications

Closing date: 17 September 2014 Publish date: 25 June 2014

The NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme invites research proposals which are related to the day-to-day practice of health service staff and is concerned with having an impact on the health or well-being of patients and users of the NHS. As a responsive rather than a commissioning programme, RfPB does not seek to name specific topic areas and welcomes applications on a wide range of issues and aims to fund high quality research that will be directed at achieving benefit for users of the NHS in England. The programme supports applications which are regionally derived and applications which have emerged from interaction with patients and the public, which relate to patient and service user experience, and which have been drawn up in association with a relevant group of service users.

School for Primary Care Research Competition 2014

Closing date: 24 July 2014 Publish date: 20 June 2014

The NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) was established in October 2006, as a partnership between five leading academic centres for primary care research in England. In August 2009, the Membership of the NIHR SPCR increased from five to eight academic centres.

The NIHR has launched a new open competition to refresh and renew membership of the NIHR SPCR.

The School will bring together leading academic centres in England demonstrating excellence in primary care research, and will complement existing NIHR funding streams.

Funding of over £30m, over five years, will be available to support the school in these functions and selection to the school will take place via a two-stage process.

NIHR invites eligible academic departments of primary care in England to submit an application. The closing date for submission of applications is 24 July 2014 at 1.00pm.
