Intellectual Property Management | information for industry

We recognise the key role of Intellectual Property (IP) assets in driving innovation as well as the importance of fostering a culture of invention through collaborating with industry.

We need to be confident that the outcomes of research (including IP) undertaken using the NIHR-funded infrastructure, programmes and projects will deliver benefit for the UK. The NIHR IP team takes an active role working with NIHR colleagues, recipients of NIHR funding, and industry partners to ensure that IP and contractual issues are managed in an appropriate way.

We have a responsibility to ensure that the IP generated from NIHR funding is secured within an appropriate legal, contractual environment. NIHR uses standard contracts, which include IP terms, and we would encourage funding recipients and any potential industry partners to familiarise themselves with these.  We work with funding recipients to ensure that collaborations reflect the terms of the NIHR standard contract, are mutually beneficial and recognise the contribution of all parties appropriately. Critically, we do not wish potential industry partners to be discouraged from working with the NIHR or recipients of NIHR funding due to concerns about IP terms and conditions.
