A new kind of ultrasound breast cancer scannercould help reduce the number of people who have unnecessary surgery. Researchers at the National Physical Laboratory, working with the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust have developed the technology as a way of creating more accurate ultrasound breast scans in order to cut the number of false positive results produced by current equipment and re now looking to develop the technique into a clinical device. Funding for the proof-of-concept study, was provided by the NIHR Invention for Innovation Research Programme.
