Research studying what factors impact commuting choices in Cambridge, suggest that access to pleasant and convenient routes for walking and cycling part of the journey, may help commuters who live further from work include some regular physical activity in their daily routine. The results also suggest that limiting or charging for workplace car parking and providing free off-site car parking might help to encourage walking and cycling as part of the journey to work. The baseline findings of the study funded by the NIHR Public Health Research Programme, is published in the Preventive Medicine journal.
