New research describes an advance in efforts to develop a method to replace missing teeth with new bioengineered teeth generated from a person’s own gum cells. It is hoped that the research led by Professor Paul Sharpe, an expert in craniofacial development and stem cell biology at King’s College London’s Dental Institute, and funded by the NIHR’s Guy's and St Thomas' Biomedical Research Centre, will lead to identifying a way to culture adult human mesenchymal cells to be tooth-inducing.
