Exercise is not effective in reducing rates of depression among elderly care home residents, according to the findings of an National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) Programme study.

In a paper published in The Lancet, the research team conclude that in residential care settings alternative approaches to combatting the psychological symptoms of depression are required.
