An initiative that helps male football fans feel better and live a healthier lifestyle by losing weight, taking more exercise and improving their diet has been a resounding success, according to new research published in The Lancet and BMC Public Health.

The Football Fans in Training (FFIT) project, funded by the NIHR Public Health Research Programme, was a free, 12-week scheme run at Scottish Professional Football League clubs. It was one of the world’s first trials on a health programme being delivered through professional sports clubs.
