Research carried out by the NIHR King’s Patient Safety and Service Quality Research Centre (NIHR King’s PSSQ) together with Foresight Partnership, has led to the launch a key NHS strategy document; The Healthy NHS Board: Principles for Good Governance. The guidance from NHS National Leadership Council, highlights the critical role boards play in ensuring that quality, centered on patient safety, effective care and patient experience, is at the heart of the NHS.

NIHR i4i Devices for Dignity launches a new website to mark Dignity Action DayUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Devices for Dignity (D4D), an NIHR i4i research initiative which supports patients with long term conditions preserve their dignity and independence is launching a new website, D4D Health Technology Cooperative (http://www.d4d-htc.org.uk) this week to mark Dignity in Action Day.

Dignity Action Day is a national initiative lead by the Dignity in Care Campaign to bring staff and members of the public together to dedicate February 25th to taking some action around dignity making a difference to those in care.
Dignity Action Day asks health and social care workers to take action in their place of work to promote dignity. It also asks members of the public to do what they can to take action on this day to promote dignity for people in their communities. The activities taking place nationally to support Dignity Action day are shared on the Dignity in Care website http://www.dhcarenetworks.org.uk/dignityincare/DAD/

NIHR HTA research compares pulmonary rehabilitation in community with hospital settingsUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
The NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme has published results of a study, which shows that pulmonary rehabilitation delivered in a community setting is as effective to that offered in a more traditional hospital-based setting.

Quality Accounts - Participation in Clinical ResearchUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Research helps the NHS to improve the quality of care and the future health of the population. Quality Accounts let patients and the public know about the quality of care. Preparing Quality Accounts encourages NHS boards to assess quality across the totality of services they offer, with an eye to continuous quality improvement.

From 1st April 2010, regulations will require NHS providers to complete a statement in their quality accounts regarding their participation in clinical research.

NIHR INVOLVE Conference 2010 – Call for presentationsUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
INVOLVE are inviting presentations on all aspects of public involvement in health and/ or social care research with a focus on innovation and impact, for the INVOLVE conference 2010. The conference will be held on 16-20 November at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.
 
The closing date for proposed presentations is 12 April 2010.

Statistical Methods for Outbreak Detection Conference - 19 May 2010Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
The Open University Statistics Group is holding a conference, supported by the NIHR, to focus on statistical methods for prospective surveillance of outbreaks of infectious diseases and their early detection and control. The conference will be held at the Open University in Milton Keynes.
