Workshop on dementia research

A Researcher Briefing event was held at Central Hall Westminster, London on Friday 14 January 2011. This was prior to the publication of the final report from the Ministerial Advisory Group for Dementia Research (MAGDR)

The Chairs from all five MAGDR sub-groups presentedinformation on the role of the MAGDR and progress to date. The presentations provided the opportunity for MAGDR to receive input from the wider research community directly.

There was also the opportunity for delegates to learn about NIHR research programmes. Representatives from a range of NIHR programmes were available to advise on the various funding routes available and to help researchers prepare for future funding opportunities.

The workshop attracted over 350 delegates in total from a range of disciplines across the fields of 'care, cure and cause', including prevention.

Paul Burstow, MP, Minister of State for Care Services officially announced the themed call for research on dementia, launching in March 2011. You can watch this announcement, on NIHR YouTube.

You can watch Professor Dame Sally C. Davies, talking about NIHR’s contribution to Dementia Research on NIHR YouTube.
