Public and Patient Involvement in the pilot HRSS
What is Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)?
Patient and public involvement is the inclusion of members of the general public in the planning, organisation and delivery of health care.
We are committed to embedding patient and public involvement in all aspects of the Health Research Support Service to ensure a patient centred approach is taken.
The pilot HRSS will establish ways in which local, regional and national patient and public involvement stakeholders can provide feedback on the activities of the pilot HRSS to take patients views into account and shape the design of the main solution.
Patient feedback from the pilot HRSS will be invaluable for the development of future communications with patients and the public
Patient and public involvement coordination group
A patient and public involvement coordination group is being set up to:
- Identify and measure benefits of the pilot HRSS
- Provide feedback and reporting on the pilot HRSS and useful lessons learned that will inform the development of the main Health Research Support Service
- Raise awareness of why patient and public involvement is being done in the pilot HRSS, the value it adds and the wider benefits to patients and the public
Patient benefits of the pilot Health Research Support Service
There are a number of key benefits that the pilot Health Research Support Service aims to deliver, these include:
- Improved public confidence in the way patient data is used securely and confidentially
- Better patient understanding about the security and uses of patient data in research studies
- A clearer understanding of how people can get involved in clinical trials and other studies that are relevant to them
How can patients be involved?
Patients at the two GP practices participating in the pilot HRSS will have the opportunity to feedback their thoughts on the pilot HRSS directly, through the independent qualitative research project.
Independent qualitative research project
The University College London (UCL) is carrying out an independent review of the pilot HRSS. This review will take into account the views of patients, public, GPs and practice staff.
