Professor Jill Manthorpe

Professor Manthorpe is Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit on Health and Social Care Workforce and Associate Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research. She is theme lead for social care and Executive Board member of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration South London, chairs the NIHR Policy Research Programme committee, and is an NIHR Senior Investigator (Emeritus).

Jill is Professor of Social Work at King's College London. Her particular research interests are in policy, workforce, care practice and ageing. She was a member of the first NICE Dementia Guidelines group and has served on two James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnerships (dementia and adult social work). She is a member of the Alzheimer's Society Grant Panel.

Beyond research, Jill is a charity trustee for a major care provider, an older people's policy and information centre, and a charity promoting education in open source intelligence. She was a Non-Executive Director of an NHS mental health trust and two primary care trusts, and prior to that was a member of the Lord Chancellor's Tribunal Service and chair of a local carers' strategy board and older people's group.
