Siobhan Creanor

Siobhan is Chair of the South West Regional Advisory Committee for the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Programme.

Siobhan is Professor of Medical Statistics & Clinical Trials, Director of Exeter CTU at University of Exeter. Also Associate Professor (Reader) in Medical Statistics and Clinical Trials at the Peninsula Schools of Medicine & Dentistry. She remains to have links with the medical statistics group at Plymouth University and is the Director of the Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit. She has nearly 20 years’ experience in health-related research.

She trained in statistics at the University of Glasgow and began her research career working in dental research as a Research Statistician, then Senior Research Statistician at the University of Glasgow Dental School. She joined Plymouth University as a Lecturer in Health Statistics in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor in Health Statistics (Senior Lecturer) in 2012. Siobhan is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and has retained Chartered Statistician status since 2004 and been a Chartered Scientist since 2009.

Siobhan’s research interests cover a variety of health-related areas, including emergency medicine, neurodegenerative conditions, smoking cessation, mental health, obesity, pain, and oral health, with particular experience in pragmatic trials of both drugs and complex interventions. She has been the trial/senior statistician on over a dozen large randomised trials, with research funding support from NIHR HTA, PHR, RfPB, CSO, CRUK and other charities. Her collaborative work has led to over 90 publications.

Siobhan is an expert reviewer of funding applications and final reports for a number of NIHR programmes, NICE and charity organisations, as well as continuing as a peer-reviewer for several health-related journals. She also sits as an independent statistician on a number of trial steering and data monitoring committees. Siobhan previously served on the NIHR RfPB regional advisory committee in the South West for four years before taking up the Chair role.
