Dr Lesong Conteh

Dr Conteh is deputy chair of the Independent Scientific Advisory Group for NIHR's Global Health Research Programme. She is a health economist with 20 years research experience on the economics of infectious diseases, primarily malaria, and health system performance in sub Saharan Africa.  She has extensive experience of coordinating multi-country economic evaluations to assess the impact of scaling up interventions via different delivery strategies. 

Lesong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy at LSE and academic lead for the newly established African Health Observatory - Platform on Health Systems and Policies. Prior to joining LSE she held positions at Imperial College London, The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and MRC The Gambia. 

Lesong has been involved in a number of global health initiatives such as the Lancet Commission for Global Surgery,  as a member of the WHO steering committee for the Global Technical Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030, and as co-chair for Economics of The Global Fund Modelling Secretariat.
