NIHR Central Commissioning Facility

The NIHR Central Commissioning Facility (CCF) organises competitions and monitors performance for NIHR Programmes, Faculty and Infrastructure on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). It is managed by LGC's Grant Management Group.

The CCF supports the NIHR in providing information on recruitment to clinical trials as well as managing the Senior Investigator awards and competitions. 

We also ensure patients and the public are involved in the research we support.

Leadership team


Dr David King, Director 

David King, Director of the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility, leads a staff of 110 people based in Twickenham managing more than £377m pa of research programme and infrastructure funding for NIHR and DHSC as outlined above.

Before joining CCF in 2008, David worked on the implementation of a number of NIHR funding schemes whilst at the Department, including Biomedical Research Centres and Units, the School for Primary Care Research, CLAHRCs and Programme Grants for Applied Research. Prior to that, David was the R&D Manager at the then North West London Hospitals NHS Trust for five years and also spent eleven years at the Medical Research Council's Head Office, including one year on secondment to the Wellcome Trust.
