Reference & Terminology Service (RTS)
In order for research information systems to communicate with each other consistently and effectively, they need to use the same language. The RTS is designed to provide this language by acting as a single repository for all research reference data, which is capable of “talking” with any operational system.
This functionality means RTS will enable NHS organisations and the wider research community to align systems and compare data. It will also enable consistency in reporting and business process thereby improving NHS clinical research operations
RTS will also:
- Act as a research terminology index for all researchers
- Produce a single map of NHS organisational hierarchies – for example, it will provide a definitive list of all NHS Trusts and the hospitals that sit within them
- Provide a map of clinical coding
