The Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research
The Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research is a UK-wide research collaboration involving 21 academic institutions and health partners in England, Scotland and Wales. The NIHR is one of ten funders in the consortium led by the Medical Research Council.
The Institute supports the collective work of centres of excellence in e-health informatics research across the UK to optimise the use of health records in research and address the UK’s capacity building requirements to support a sustainable health informatics research base.
The Institute has established a coordinated approach to safe havens, created digital laboratories for larger scale research and widened access to well-described datasets. The centres also provide facilities for communication to address key issues in health informatics research including governance, computer science infrastructure, public engagement, and training and education.
The Institute accelerates the centres’ collective work, which supports innovation in the public sector and industry research to develop advances in preventative medicine, improvements in healthcare delivery and better development of commercial drugs and diagnostics.
