Patient Recruitment Centre (PRC): Bradford is a leading centre for setting up and delivering late phase commercial clinical trials in the NHS at pace and scale. It is hosted by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which provides core services to 500,000 people and specialist services to 1.1 million people.

By attracting more commercial research to the UK, PRC: Bradford also increases opportunities for its local population to access cutting edge treatment and therapies that are not yet widely available through the NHS.

Explore PRC: Bradford

The PRC’s high-quality clinical research studies are led by experienced, research-active NHS clinicians who provide day-to-day care for NHS patients across a wide range of diseases and conditions including:

  • cardiovascular
  • respiratory
  • diabetes
  • paediatric medicine
  • obstetrics
  • renal
  • ophthalmology

State-of-the-art facilities

More than £9 million has been invested in research infrastructure over the last decade by PRC: Bradford’s host trust to create the Bradford Health Research Hub - a focal point for the PRC’s research expertise. This includes the Bradford Institute for Health Research, the PRC and the £3 million Wolfson Centre for Applied Health Research, a partnership with the Universities of Leeds and Bradford.

PRC: Bradford has recruited 1,321 participants in 50 commercial studies since inception, including several vaccine trials.

The region has a unique demographic. 1 in 4 people describe themselves as Asian or Asian British ethnic origin and it has the 4th highest proportion of under 16 year olds in England.

The Connected Bradford dataset is one of the richest in the UK with linked health and educational or social care data for 700,000 citizens. The PRC also has access to phenotype and genotype data.

The PRC’s strong local and regional links has enabled it to forge strong clinical networks across the city of Bradford, its surrounding 2.5 million West Yorkshire population, and the wider 5 million population of Yorkshire.

The PRC aims to do more to provide people across the region with opportunities to take part in clinical research. It is developing partnerships and collaborating with different health and social care providers, to help access hard-to-reach patient groups outside of the usual hospital setting.

Located in the heart of Northern England, it is easily accessible via public transport and a 25 minute drive from Leeds Bradford Airport.

If you are considering taking part in research you can be assured that the PRC provides a high-quality, safe, clean, friendly and comfortable environment. Taking part is entirely voluntary and you can withdraw at any time - your NHS care will not be compromised.

The PRC also ensures that information about the research it conducts is available to patients, carers and the public so that they can use it to inform their care, or the care of their family and friends. The PRC is able to provide a friendly interpreter service, should it be required.
