Cancer Research Excellence in Surgical Trials (CREST) award

Supporting Information

The CREST award was created to recognise the surgical team that has made the greatest contribution to the oncology portfolio over the previous year and, as a by-product, created some positive publicity within the surgical community for clinical trials.

The award is now in its seventh year and is open to nominations.

The award is for individual surgeons and teams that have made the greatest contribution in recruitment to the NIHR cancer trials portfolio from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021.

The nomination could be for a single surgeon, a surgical team, or for the Multi-Disciplinary Team in which the surgeons are active recruiters.

The award of £1,000 has been kindly supported by Swann Morton (who manufacture scalpels).

The award is for NIHR Portfolio recruitment (i.e. nominees may, or may not, be active as trial Chief Investigators, or on Clinical Studies Groups, or in other areas such as Research and Development/laboratory work etc.), with additional cancer research roles also taken into account, and covers the full range of specialties including ophthalmology and gynaecology as well as the ten surgical specialties covered by the surgical colleges.
