Global Advanced Fellowship

Mid-career award for postdoctoral applied global health researchers. You will need to be in a Low or Middle Income Country (LMIC) or in the UK to apply.

This award creates a sustainable career pathway for global health researchers to become research leaders.

Through this programme, we fund research that aims to specifically and primarily benefit people in Low Middle Income Countries (LMICs) eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Why apply?

This award will enable you to progress in your career by developing research leadership skills. It addresses the gap in global health funding opportunities for mid-career researchers, particularly in LMICs.

The Global Advanced Fellowship includes up to £750,000 to fund:

  • a research project in applied global health
  • salary costs
  • designing and completing a personal training and development plan

A portion of your award funding should contribute to long-term, sustainable research capacity strengthening of your host or partner organisation. This will be the LMIC organisation you name in your application.

“Our new Global Advanced Fellowship award fills an important gap in the career pathway for global health researchers. It provides a new opportunity for global health researchers from LMICs and the UK to advance their research careers”
Professor Kara Hanson, NIHR’s Programme Director for Global Health Research
