Summary:

There is an urgent need to understand more about the biology of COVID-19. The aim of this study is to find out about the response of the immune system to COVID-19 to enable improvements in both treatments and diagnostic tests for the disease. Patients will be recruited both within the hospital and the community following COVID-19 testing and in many cases will be followed up over time to enable a long term analysis of the immune response to the virus. We will collect samples from people with a range of different responses to infection, from those without any symptoms through to hospitalised patients, in order to assess the response of the immune system in patients with different clinical symptoms. Description:

The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has already led to over 35,000 deaths worldwide. There is an urgent need to understand more about the biology of this disease. Here we seek to collect specimens from patients who have been confirmed to have active or convalescent SARS-CoV-2 infection, and a corresponding control group, to assess the immunological response to the infection in patients with a range of clinical manifestations of the disease.
