Research following need

Please note that the data displayed below are provided purely to illustrate the NIHR research taking place in comparison to the prevalence of palliative and end of life care need. Data has been obtained in raw form and NIHR has not applied any additional data analysis. Given that currently equivalent data from across the UK is not included within a single tool, the data has been derived from different sources from across the UK based on areas of direct responsibility. However, NIHR is keen to ensure that research is conducted in the areas where health needs are greatest across the UK and therefore, applicants from across the UK will be expected to justify their choice of recruitment sites.

England

The image above shows information relating to both palliative and end of life care prevalence per 1,000 population and research recruitment rates per 1,000 cases in NIHR CRN local network areas in England between financial year 2014/2015 and financial year 2019/2020. The data is ordered by prevalence (high to low) and also displays and all England average figure. Applicants should prioritise involving areas with above average prevalence and below average recruitment to meet the objectives of the brief.

Data are available at a CCG level which provide further information about the prevalence/recruitment breakdown, for example there are 28 CCGs with zero recruitment over the data period, 13 of which have above average prevalence levels. The full breakdown of NIHR CRN-supported palliative and end of life care/support research activity and prevalence for all 139 CCGs in England can be obtained by emailing a request to: crossprogramme@nihr.ac.uk

You can find the information displayed in the above image listed in a table.
