The ear, nose and throat (ENT) portfolio supports research into all conditions of the ears, nose and throat, including hearing and balance. The number of studies being supported by the Specialty is set to rise, with trials evaluating existing treatments, and those supporting novel hearing therapies including devices, drugs, genes and cells in the pipeline.

These studies will be delivered  in NHS hearing services where hearing care is provided by multidisciplinary teams including ENT surgeons, audiologists,  audio-vestibular physicians and speech and language therapists.

With the research portfolio growing, one of the Specialty objectives has been to increase local activity by harnessing the support of local ENT professionals. The aim is to encourage growth in the number of studies being conducted across England, and increase the number of participants taking part in ENT studies.

Since 2017,  the Specialty has been working with a range of ENT professional to encourage more local activity through the following groups:

Audiology Champions

Trainee Leads

Speech and Language Therapy Champions
