Why hesitate? It can be a similar experience to presenting at conferences, but potentially less daunting. The application process is relatively straight forward requiring minimal input, so it would be a pity to miss the opportunity. You can mold it to be the type of event that you would find most useful and you can only gain from talking to others.

The IVSA award is a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers and trainees. Not only does it allow dissemination of findings and improving presentation skills, but also creates real opportunities for developing new or support ongoing research collaborations. Apart from reviewing the immediate needs and next goals for their career, I would also advise potential applicants to think about: What would enable me and my host to benefit from my visit or a collaboration?

It is definitely a great opportunity to share your research and gain additional contacts at other institutions. It is important to make sure you contact your hosts in advance and make sure your and their expectations for your presentation are clear.

Go for it - it is quick and easy to apply for. Allow plenty of time for discussion (more than you think you will need). I would recommend using short feedback forms to gain feedback on your talk and its content, as not all audience members will want to participate in verbal discussion.

I would encourage the BRC researchers to apply for the IVSA award because it’s an excellent opportunity for networking, enhancing public speaking skills and gaining a firsthand experience of defending your work in front of external audience.
