Policy Research Units

Application dates: 20 July 2017 to 09 October 2017

The Policy Research Programme (PRP) invites proposals for Policy Research Units (PRUs) in a number of high priority areas. The purpose is to meet the longer-term policy research needs of the Department of Health (DH) and its Arms Length Bodies (ALBs), as well as to secure the capacity for work to be undertaken at short notice and for rapid synthesis of evidence.

Applications are invited to deliver a five-year programme of high quality research in the following priority areas, each of which will constitute a Policy Research Unit:

  • Economics of Health Systems and Interface with Social Care
  • Economic Methods of Evaluation in Health and Social Care Interventions
  • Behavioural Science
  • Policy Innovation and Evaluation
  • Quality, Safety and Outcomes of Health and Social Care
  • Health and Social Care Systems and Commissioning
  • Public Health
  • Health and Social Care Workforce
  • Adult Social Care
  • Maternal and Neonatal Health and Care
  • Children and Families
  • Working Age
  • Older People and Frailty
  • Cancer Awareness, Screening and Early Diagnosis



Deadline for stage 1 applications: 1pm on 9 October 2017

Notification of stage 1 outcome: December 2017

Deadline for stage 2 application: February 2018

Notification of stage 2 outcome: April 2018
