As part of developing your research idea, you may find it helpful to refer to the following resources and toolkits which incorporate good research practice and provide documents and links that can inform the design of your research.

NIHR Research Design Service

Building on the support available from your local NHS or university R&D department, our Research Design Service (RDS) can help you to formulate your research idea into a robust proposal. It offers:

  • advice and guidance on all aspects of research design and conduct including formulating research questions
  • research design for quantitative and qualitative studies
  • identifying and applying to appropriate funding sources and contacting appropriate collaborators in research, including patient representatives.

  • UKCRC Registered CTU Network - The UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Units (CTUs) website provides information on CTUs that have expertise in centrally coordinating multicentre clinical trials, as well as in trial design, data management, and analysis. It will be particularly relevant to clinical researchers and funders wishing to identify Clinical Trials Units (CTUs).
