NIHR Global Health Research Presentation and Training Travel Award Pilot (GHR PTTA)

We are pleased to launch the second application period for the NIHR Global Health Research Presentation and Training Travel Award Pilot (NIHR GHR PTTA). Recognising that travel may not be possible within the award period, applications for virtual experiences are encouraged.

This award gives applicants the opportunity to plan a personalised presentation, training (skills/techniques/career development) and networking experience in another part of the NIHR (within the UK or a LMIC). The experience should contribute to the individual’s personal and professional development, build sustainable links/collaborations and help them succeed in their future career.

In light of the current situation we have made some changes to the scheme which we hope will be of interest to all NIHR GHR Academy members   . The changes are detailed within the NIHR PTTA Guidance Notes  and briefly outlined below:

  • Based on feedback we have received during the pilot phase, individuals based within a NIHR GHR programme who are currently between career development awards (i.e. between Masters and PhD or between PhD and Post-doc) are also now eligible to apply for an NIHR GHR PTTA award. We welcome applicants contacting the office to discuss their eligibility before putting in an application.
  • In light of the current situation and travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we would encourage prospective applicants to explore the possibility of presenting their research virtually, as well as the possibility of undertaking suitable available training online that meets the applicant’s individual training, personal and professional needs.

The NIHR GHR PTTA is funded by Official Development Assistance (ODA) and as such, any individual applying for this award must be able to demonstrate how the award will directly and primarily benefit patients and the public in countries on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Development Assistance Committee List of ODA Recipients (OECD DAC List of ODA Recipients).
