NIHR Incubator Competition 2022

Supporting Information

The overall aim of NIHR Incubators is to build research capacity in areas/disciplines in which there is a need on a national level.

Incubators are virtual and bespoke to their community. The NIHR provides some funding to enable key stakeholders to identify the barriers that exist and to suggest and implement, where possible, solutions to building research capacity in a sustainable and meaningful way.

For this competition, applications that align with NIHR’s Best Research for Best Health: The Next Chapter are particularly encouraged, to build research capacity in NIHR’s areas of strategic focus. Current NIHR Incubators will be eligible to apply. Please note applications for regional Incubators will not be accepted in this competition.

NIHR Incubators receive:

  • £30,000 funding to cover some or all of the cost of a project manager/admin support post
  • £10,000 for additional engagement activities
  • NIHR badging and support for 3 years, including the opportunity for all Incubator Leads to meet regularly

How to apply

The application form can be requested from once the competition opens.

The selection committee will be looking to see how the proposal supports the aims of the NIHR and the Incubator initiative to build research capacity in areas/disciplines of national need and a clear plan for delivery; including achievable and realistic objectives. They will also want to see evidence that the relevant stakeholders and partners have been identified and engaged.
