NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR)

Supporting Information

Supporting Information:

The NIHR is inviting academic institutions in England to apply to a new open competition to renew and refresh membership of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR).

The renewed SPCR will conduct world-leading research in primary care which responds to and meets the needs of local populations and local health and care systems, and which addresses the nation’s changing demographics and corresponding impact on disease burdens and service demands.

Distinctive to this new phase of the school, is the explicit aim to strengthen the primary care research sector more broadly, with a requirement for members of the school to share their expertise with non-member institutions.  There will be a strong emphasis on engaging, collaborating and partnering with institutions beyond the school membership.

From 1 April 2021 and for a five year period, funding of over £22 million will be available to support the school in these functions for the research contract. The school will also hold a capacity building contract with the NIHR Academy in the region of £10 million over 5 years.

Stage 1 Launch Date: 6 November 2019

Stage 1 deadline for submission: Wednesday 15 January 2020 at 1:00pm

Stage 2 (if selected at Stage 1) - Business plan development May 2020
