NIHR Pre-doctoral Fellowships are designed to support people who are looking to start or advance a career in health and social care research methodology within the UK, specifically in one of the following areas:
- medical statistics
- health economics
- clinical trial design
- operational research
- modelling
- bioinformatics
- qualitative research
- mixed methods
- epidemiological methods
Applicants should either have completed or are about to complete their undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, or already hold a master’s level degree (or currently undertaking one) relevant to one of the areas above. The fellowship can be undertaken over a 12, 18 or 24 month period depending on the level of training required, and applicants have the option to complete it on a full or part time basis.
To be eligible for a NIHR Pre-doctoral Fellowship you must:
- have completed a relevant undergraduate degree
- have a proposed host who is an English Higher Education Institution, NHS body, or other provider of health and/or care services
- be proposing to develop a career as a research methodologist in one of the areas listed above
Successful applicants for this Round will start their Fellowship between September 2023 and March 2024.
Please note: This Fellowship is not open to doctors or dentists looking to undertake training in research methods.
