We are pleased to announce that Professor Ken Stein has been appointed as Programme Director for the NIHR Systematic Reviews (SR) Programme, starting in September 2018, successor to Professor Tom Walley. The NIHR SR Programme manages the NIHR support for Cochrane activities in the UK and the NIHR support for the academic units on whose work all National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) appraisals are based.
“I am delighted that Ken has accepted this position. I am confident that under Ken's leadership the NIHR SR Programme will continue to fund and oversee vital high quality research that will continue to provide decision makers with the best possible evidence on treatments and interventions used in health and social care.” commented Professor Walley.
Professor Stein is an internationally respected public health physician and member of the evidence synthesis and HTA community. He was the founding Director of PenTAG, one of the NIHR SR Programme groups which support the work of NICE and other national policy makers and has a long history of support for Cochrane and other evidence synthesis collaborations.
“I’m very pleased to have the privilege of leading the NIHR SR Programme, which is internationally outstanding in supporting systematic reviews and a key part of the overall evidence synthesis ecosystem in NIHR. I’m confident we can continue and develop further the excellent relationships established by Tom Walley that underpin the programme’s success” said Professor Stein.
