The NIHR and Charities Consortium Hospice and Community Research are delighted to announce the winners of the 2021 NIHR and Charities Consortium Hospice and Community Research - Hospice Consortium Prizes.
The winners are:
The Marie Curie Prize, awarded to the research team which has published practice changing results from a hospice or community care study on the NIHR Portfolio, was won by The HIDDen study team. A collaboration between the Hull York Medical School, the University of Cardiff and Northern Ireland Hospice, aims to find out how many cancer patients admitted to hospice units have a Deep Vein Thrombosis.
The Hospice UK Award is awarded to the hospice (or group of hospices) which has made significant progress in becoming research active through contributing to NIHR Portfolio Studies. As there was a large volume of high quality applications for this award a number of applications were highly commended:
St Michael's Hospice, Hastings and Royal Trinity Hospice based in Clapham, south London both received commendations. The Pilgrims Hospice, based across eastern Kent received a Special Commendation award.
The winner of the Hospice UK Award was the LOROS charity at the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice. LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible.
