The awarding of three new contracts was announced today as part of the updated NIHR Leaders Support and Development Programme. The programme supports leaders within the NIHR and is part of an investment by the Department of Health and Social Care of approximately £2.3m in health research leadership development.
The contracts for three complimentary activities were awarded to Capp and Co, The Oakridge Centre Ltd and KPMG following a competitive procurement process.
Professor Dave Jones, Dean for the NIHR Academy said: “To ensure we are able to tackle complex health and care challenges, today and in the future, it is vital we support our research leaders and develop those who are currently establishing their careers.
“We have taken a new approach with this programme to ensure we can continue and improve on the work the NIHR is already undertaking, to fund high quality research to improve health, provide world-class research facilities, work closely with the life sciences industry and charities and involve patients and the public at every step.”
The programme will be managed by the newly established NIHR Academy and is open to researchers and senior managers supported by the NIHR. Applications will be accepted when the programme is launched in Spring 2019.
The procurement process to provide leadership training, coaching and learning resources for 2019-21 was launched in June 2018 by NIHR Academy and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Three contracts have been awarded:
- Capp and Co have been awarded the contract for a future-focused leadership and management programme for NIHR Leaders and NIHR Emerging Leaders.
- The Oakridge Centre Ltd have been awarded the contract to develop a suite of modular resources for leadership and management development.
- KPMG have been awarded the contract to provide coaching and facilitation support for NIHR strategic initiatives.
The NIHR has invested in a leadership programme since 2009. It has already developed over 900 health and care research leaders who work to make sure that NIHR-funded research is carried out effectively and delivers its full potential to increase public health and prosperity.
