Simon Denegri OBE will be stepping down from his role as NIHR’s National Director for Patients, Carers and the Public to join the Academy of Medical Sciences as their new Executive Director in October this year.
Simon Denegri, was appointed the NIHR's National Director for Patients, Carers and the Public in 2012. In this role, Simon’s leadership has been pivotal to building a strong partnership with the public and wider public and patient involvement and engagement (PPIE) community to deliver on NIHR’s commitment to involve patients, carers and the public in all that it does.
Simon has led the development and implementation of the strategic recommendations of the NIHR’s ‘Going the Extra Mile’ report; engaged the public in research through International Clinical Trials Day; and, raised awareness of NIHR’s leadership in PPIE at home and internationally. His immense contribution is appreciated by patients, public contributors and researchers, and Simon was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2018 for his services to NHS, public health and social care research.
The NIHR is extremely grateful to Simon for his commitment and leadership in patient and public involvement and engagement in research. Simon will continue to support NIHR in the coming months and we look forward to continuing to work closely with him in his new role at the Academy.
