Respiratory disorders specialty celebrates its high achievements with industry partners
The Respiratory Disorders specialty group held its second industry day earlier this year to celebrate its successes in delivering industry sponsored studies, to share the changes in practice which has led to better performance and to open the discussion with industry colleagues around some of the challenges facing the delivery of respiratory clinical trials in the UK such as Brexit.
More than 50 delegates attended including representatives from NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN), front-line clinical trials teams, industry partners from both major pharmaceutical companies and from contract research organisations (CROs).
CRN Respiratory Disorders specialty presented data and described how it has achieved reaching recruitment to time and target for 82 per cent of studies on the CRN Portfolio in 2018/19. The Specialty has also supported more industry studies than ever before, with 56 studies on the Portfolio during 2018/19.
Professor Anthony De Soyza, National Specialty Lead for CRN Respiratory Disorders said:
“Our industry day presented us with a great opportunity to celebrate our successes in delivering industry studies and how we have developed the way we work with these studies to improve our service for our industry partners and patient groups. As National Specialty Lead, it was particularly pleasing to hear more of the excellent work from our local leads and the sites they support and to highlight their sub-specialty areas and achievements.”
Dr Dinesh Saralaya, Industry Lead for Respiratory Disorders added, who was also heavily involved in the organisation of the day said:
“As Industry lead for Respiratory Disorders at the Network, I was delighted to see how far we’ve come as a group with supporting these studies and it was a really valuable opportunity to have an open conversation with industry about some of the challenges they currently face around delivery which helps us to improve our services further and to discuss what implications the wider political climate could bring.”
