Tickets available for free NIHR urgent care conference

Clinicians working in urgent care are being invited to a free NIHR conference in Basingstoke, Hampshire, about developments in NHS research.

The NIHR Clinical Research Network will host “Celebrating Urgent Care Research in Wessex and the Thames Valley” at The Ark Conference Centre on Wednesday 31 October from 9am to 5pm.

The event will include talks on developments in urgent care research, with a focus across the specialties of critical care, anaesthesia and injuries and emergencies.

A call to submit research abstracts is open until 31st August 2018 and successful applicants will be invited to submit posters or give oral presentations.

The event has been organised by the NIHR Clinical Research Networks in Thames Valley and South Midlands and in Wessex. These research networks serve Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and South Wiltshire.

It will be chaired by Dr David Pogson, Consultant in Critical Care, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Dr Andrew Walden, Consultant in Critical Care, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The speakers are:

  • Dr Mark Edwards- Fluid optimisation in emergency laparotomy
  • Dr Nicola Curry- Cryoprecipitate and fibrinogen in major haemorrhage
  • Mr Paul Mouncey - Intensive care research
  • Professor Anthony Gordon - improving survival in ICU-admitted patients with severe community acquired pneumonia
  • Dr Simon Stanworth – clinical indications of blood components
  • Dr Tristan Clark - Point-of-care testing for respiratory viruses in critical care
  • Dr Katie Warnaby - Brain imaging in anaesthesia

Clare Rook, a Research Delivery Manager at CRN Wessex and one of the event organisers, said: “What's special about this event is the breadth of research that presentations will cover so a great opportunity for trainees, consultants, research nurses and research delivery staff to learn about advances in clinical care through research across both regions.”
