Healthcare professionals working within surgery are being invited to a free NIHR conference in Oxford about developments in NHS research.
The NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) will host “Celebrating success in surgery research in Wessex and the Thames Valley” at Saïd Business School, Oxford, on Friday 14 June from 09:15 to 16:30.
The event will include talks on developments in surgery research, with a focus on the delivery of surgical trials across the two CRN regions.
A call to submit research abstracts is open until 14 May and successful applicants will be invited to submit posters or give oral presentations.
The event has been organised by the NIHR Clinical Research Networks for Wessex and Thames Valley and South Midlands. These research networks serve Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and South Wiltshire.
It will be chaired by Mr James Byrne, consultant upper GI and bariatric surgeon, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Miss P.G. Roy, consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Clare Rook, a research delivery manager at CRN Wessex and one of the event organisers, said: “What's special about this event is the breadth of research that presentations will cover making it a great opportunity for trainees, consultants, research nurses, nurses, clinical trials assistants and research delivery staff to learn about advances in clinical care through surgical research across both regions.”
