Wessex healthcare professionals recognised for research contributions

Date: 22 March 2019

Around 170 healthcare professionals and patient representatives from across the Wessex region have gathered for an awards ceremony to celebrate their achievements in research.

The event, which was organised by the NIHR Clinical Research Network Wessex (CRN Wessex), took place at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on Thursday 21 March. Nominees from healthcare settings across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and the Isle of Wight gathered to hear how their research contributions have benefitted the NHS, public health and social care.

Guests were entertained by the master of ceremonies, comedian Christie Grattan, as well as a choir, who opened the ceremony with a three-song a cappella performance.

A total of nine awards were presented, including two special awards for outstanding achievement for both an individual and a team. Guest presenters included representatives from event sponsors Janssen, Edge and SilverLining, as well as the NIHR CRN Coordinating Centre.

Rebecca McKay, chief operating officer of CRN Wessex, explains the importance of recognising the achievements of healthcare professionals working in Wessex: “The CRN Wessex awards ceremony is a great opportunity to acknowledge the very diverse and exciting research that is taking place across Wessex every day. We would like to thank everyone who joined us for the awards and we send our congratulations to all the winners and nominees. We would also like to thank our award sponsors, the staff at St Mary’s Stadium and the choir.”

Now in their third year, the NIHR CRN Wessex awards offer much-deserved recognition for the Wessex research community, who continue to improve care through research.
