NIHR Impact Advisory Board

The NIHR Impact Advisory Board was established in collaboration with the NIHR Impact Programme, to provide guidance and assess relevance of work from a patients and public, industry, NHS, funder, research, clinical and health and social care perspective.

The board meets 2-3 times annually, via a virtual platform, to discuss the work of the impact programme and share relevant expertise.

About Dawn

Since beginning her career working with people with learning disabilities in the NHS and 3rd sector, Dawn was an early career researcher with a focus on people with learning disabilities and health inequities. Since then, Dawn has had a varied career, holding senior and executive level positions across the NHS, achieving impact in complex and uncertain settings. Dawn is a collaborative leader who has experience of leading in complex systems, working across the health and academic sectors and the life sciences industry. A strategic leader who has worked across the knowledge, research and innovation pipeline, from experimental medicine to adoption and spread.

An experienced leader with a strong and varied portfolio of working across complex, fragmented systems and sectors. Dawn has a strong commitment to, and personal belief in, the importance of research and innovation to healthcare services and has a track record of implementing improvement and innovation that leads to tangible change for patients.

About Catherine

Catherine has been involved with healthcare and clinical research since 2007. She is currently the blog editor for the European Association for Palliative Care, and she is appointed by the Secretary of State to be an appeal panel member for NICE’s Technology appraisal and highly specialised technologies appeals.

She was a volunteer with the charity ICUsteps from 2007-2023. Previous roles also include a lay member for South Warks Clinical Commissioning Group, Chief Executive for ICUsteps for one year and a chair for NICE Guideline 204 Babies, Children and Young People’s Experience of Healthcare (published in August 2021).
