Dr Alex Henderson is the NIHR Clinical Research Network National Specialty Lead for Genetics
Dr Henderson is a Consultant in Clinical Genetics at the Northern Genetics Service, which is part of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. He trained in Cambridge and London before moving to Newcastle in 2003. In 2008, Dr Henderson completed a PhD at Newcastle University. He has been a Consultant at the Northern Genetics Service since 2009 and his main clinical work involves patient care across Cumbria. He is also responsible for the training of junior doctors in the department.
His current research interests include paediatric and general adult genetics as well as cancer genetics. He has experience as a Clinical Investigator and has been the Principal Investigator for multiple research studies. This also includes industry sponsored interventional research and multi-centres international studies.
He previously represented the North East Genetics Clinical Research Network, before being appointed as National Specialty Lead for Genetics in 2015.
