Professor Alastair Denniston (Chair)

  • Consultant Ophthalmologist, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust & Hon Professor, University of Birmingham, UK
  • Experience: Evaluation and regulation of innovative health technologies, including digital and artificial intelligence.

Professor Erika Denton (Deputy Chair)

  • Interim National Medical Director for Transformation, NHS England & Honorary Professor of Radiology, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital
  • Experience: An academic radiologist, previous National Clinical Director for Diagnostics and previous Medical Director at NNUHFT. 

Professor Andrea Cipriani

  • Professor of Psychiatry, University of Oxford
  • Experience: His research focuses on the evaluation of treatments in mental health, mainly mood disorders, anxiety and schizophrenia, with a specific interest in evidence synthesis, network meta-analysis, data science and precision mental health

Dr Timothy Clarke

  • Principal Research Clinical Psychologist & Head of Innovation, NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB
  • Experience: Implementation research in mental health and the translation of evidence and innovation into practice.

Professor Ceire Costelloe

  • Professor of Medical Statistics and Health Informatics, Institute of Cancer Research, Imperial College London
  • Experience: Chartered Statistician with a keen interest in pragmatic clinical trial design and natural experiments, and how novel statistical methodology can improve the robustness of evaluations using real-world data.

Mr Neil Daly

  • CEO, Skin Analytics
  • Experience:12 years building AIaMD skin cancer pathways, including building evidence of clinical efficacy, health economic value and post market real world evidence.

Ms Helen Dent

  • Chief Executive, BIVDA, British in vitro Diagnostics Association. Representing nearly 250 companies from the medical diagnostic, IVD sector.
  • Experience: Has worked in Diagnostics as an NHS customer, civil servant, supplier and supply chain expert. Currently heading the National Industry association. Unique and extensive knowledge of the diagnostics landscape across the UK and EU. Masters in Strategic Procurement. Masters in Public Procurement Law and Policy.

Dr Stephen Duffield

  • Associate Director for Real-world Evidence Methods, NICE Data and Analytics
  • Experience: Co-creator of NICE's RWE framework. Experience in health technology appraisal and guideline development. Involved in ongoing development of NICE’s RWE framework, collaboration on RWE demonstration projects, transformation of NICE’s use of real-world data across guidance products. Degree in medicine and a PhD in Public Health.

Professor Louisa Ells

  • Professor of Obesity & Co-director of the Obesity Institute, School of Health, Leeds Beckett University
  • Experience: Applied multi-disciplinary, cross sector research and innovation, specialising in obesity, public health, inequalities, service evaluation, evidence synthesis, mixed methods, coproduction and public involvement.

 Dr Camilla Fleetcroft

  • Strategy & Innovation Director, BSI - Regulatory Services 
  • Experience: After qualifiying as a medical doctor, I spent nearly 10 years with the MHRA Devices team, leading much of the initial work on the future regulations.

Dr Seamus O’Neill

  • CEO, Northern Health Science Alliance & MD, Liverpool Health Partners
  • Experience: Building networks and developing clusters. Establishing and sustaining strategic partnerships at scale. Understanding and delivering impact through excellence in research and innovation across health and life sciences.

Professor Rhiannon Owen

  • Professor of Statistics at Swansea University Medical School.
  • Experience: Statistics, Analysis of large-scale linked electronic health records, Epidemiology, Health Technology Assessment 

Dr Liba Sheeran

  • Reader, Cardiff University
  • Experience: Development, evaluation and implementation of digital and health technology interventions for people with low back pain in primary care, community and work sector.

Professor Lotte Steuten

  • Deputy Chief Executive, The Office of Health Economics
  • Experience: General expertise in health economics, policy and innovation research, with specialisation in quantitative decision-analytic methods and (real-world) evidence development for life science innovations.

Professor Emma Vardy

  • Experience: Dementia, delirium, ageing, frailty, older people, digital, quality improvement

Mrs Janet Champion

  • PPI Representative
  • Experience: Janet is an experienced HR professional with a long career in the public sector; with extensive experience of working for the NHS  as an independent consultant

  • PPI Representative
  • Experience: NICE committee member. The drive to early adoption means committees increasingly consider the complexities of real world evidence gaps and experience for NICE decision-making.
