The HEE/NIHR ICA Clinical Lectureship (CL) Scheme supports non-medical healthcare professionals who are in the early stages of their post-doctoral career and wish to establish themselves as independent clinical academic researchers over the course of the award.
The Clinical Lectureship scheme provide the funding to undertake a 50/50 clinical academic role during which Clinical Lecturers have the time and support to develop the specific skill sets required to achieve credibility as independent researchers, whilst continuing their clinical practice and development.

Are you eligible?
Applicants require support from an English NHS / healthcare provider organisation and an English higher education institution, and should propose to divide their time equally between their clinical and academic commitments.
All applicants must:
- belong to one of the eligible professions.
- ensure that their proposed research project is compatible with the NIHR Remit as published within the current ICA CL and SCL Applicant Guidance Notes.
Posts are co-funded by the employing organisations, which must provide at least 50% of the Clinical Lecturer's salary. The remaining portion of the salary costs, the research costs and the training/development costs will be met by the award.
Prospective applicants who hold a professional doctorate must gain support from their prospective host HEI to confirm that they meet the professional doctorate eligibility criteria.

The Chairs Report is a review of the Round 4 (2018) CDRF, CL and SCL competitions produced by the Chairs of the ICA Programme personal award review panels. This report summarises common weaknesses that were noted by the review panels, and provides advice for prospective applicants.
The Employing Host Organisation of successful applicants will be required to agree to the standard NIHR Personal awards contract. A Sample contract can be viewed for information only via the "Information for Prospective Applicants" webpage.
