We promote findings of the research we fund and that of others via the NIHR Dissemination Centre (DC) and the NIHR Horizon Scanning Research & Intelligence Centre (HSRIC). We also use a number of partners to publish findings ofNIHR-funded research. Such publications are Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC), NHS Choices and the Cochrane Library.
Our Dissemination Centre
The NIHR DC is a partnership between the Wessex Institute and Bazian. It is funded by the NIHR with contributions from Health and Care Research Wales and the HSC R&D Division, Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland. It works to put research evidence at the heart of decision making in the NHS.
The DC appraises the latest health research from both within the NIHR and other research organisations to identify the most reliable, relevant and significant findings. It produces a series of articles in the form of Signals, Highlights and Themed Reviews that are communicated to NHS commissioners, clinicians, researchers and the public.
Our Horizon Scanning Research & Intelligence Centre
The NIHR HSRIC provides news on emerging technologies in healthcare. It aims to supply timely information to key policy- and decision-makers and research funders within the NHS about emerging health technologies that may have a significant impact on patients or the provision of health services in the near future.
It partners with UK organisations and researchers, as well as international networks and organisations.
The HSRIC uses information supplied by pharmaceutical manufacturers into UK PharmaScan and encourages pharmaceutical companies to register for UK PharmaScan and input information on relevant products.
It is a member of, and host to, the Secretariat for EuroScan International Network: the International Information Network on New and Changing Health Technologies. It is also a member of INAHTA: the International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment. Members of the HSRIC are also individual members of Health Technology Assessment International.
Europe PMC is a free information resource for biomedical and health researchers, supported by us and 25 other UK and European research funders. It enables innovation through use of the literature, and helps with integrating related research data. It is also the repository used by the NIHR to support our Open Access policy.
NHS Choices is the online portal providing extensive information about the services and facilities within the NHS. It has a searchable database of international clinical trials and an extensive section on clinical trials and research which has been developed in conjunction with the NIHR.
The Cochrane Library is a collection of six databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, and a seventh database that provides information about groups in The Cochrane Collaboration. It is published by Wiley, an international scientific publishing business. Cochrane UK is one of 41 regional centres and branches supporting the global work of Cochrane. Cochrane UK is funded by the NIHR.
