Nursing Times Awards

Clinical Research Nurses deliver high quality patient care as well as dealing with data collection, follow-ups, patient groups and industry. They develop and build multi-disciplinary teams that deliver research.

The Nursing Times Awards recognises the crucial role of the Clinical Research Nurse.

Across the board in all clinical areas and care settings – from the community to hospitals to care homes and beyond, we see nurses challenging the status quo and working hard to provide better quality, safer care and a better experience for those who use their services.

The Nursing Times Awards is truly a celebration of their hard work, drive and talent. The awards give us an opportunity each year to see outstanding quality improvement projects from nurses and the teams they work with.

Nursing Times Awards 2018: Clinical Research Nursing winner

Sharon Simpson, Lead Older Persons Mental Health Research Nurse at Solent NHS Trust, has won the Nursing Times Award for Clinical Research Nursing. On receiving the award, a surprised and delighted Sharon took to twitter:

OMG I only went and did it!” Before adding, “such a privilege to be honoured with this award. It’s such a wonderful accolade to be recognised for something I just love to do, this is the icing on the cake.”

Sharon was nominated for the award by her manager Dr Sarah Williams for the work she has done to introduce research within care and nursing homes. Sharon said:

“There was clear paucity of research being conducted in the care and nursing home sector. I used my previous experiences and relationships I had built upon as an older person’s community mental health nurse and introduced research into our local care homes.

"The homes welcomed us with open arms and the partnerships are thriving. To date we have recruited over 500 participants and have over 30 homes within our partnership. It is growing and we intend to expand further into Southampton.”
