Prepare and submit your application

NIHR global health research programmes hold either one-stage or two-stage funding calls.
For two-stage calls, stage 1 is a shortlisting process that involves submitting an outline application. Stage 1 applicants invited to submit to stage 2 are required to produce a full application.
In most cases, applications undergo peer review by professional and public reviewers. Applications are then assessed by independent international funding committees made up of academics, health professionals, representatives from relevant communities and members of the public.
Guidance on preparing your application
We have core guidance that outlines key elements of the application process for all our global health funding schemes:
- NIHR Global Health Research Core Applicant Guidance
- NIHR Global Health Research Finance Guidance
- NIHR Global Health Research ODA Eligibility Guidance
Applicants should check the guidance documents for individual funding opportunities to find out specific details of the application criteria and process.
How to submit an application
Applications for research funding are submitted online through one of our research management systems, depending on which funding programme you're applying to. The funding opportunities post for the call you're applying to will have details of which system to use.
