We support and deliver research in the following areas:
- asthma, bronchiectasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- cystic fibrosis
- lung disease and infections
- lung cancer
- pleural disease
- sleeping and breathing disorders
- disorders affecting the chest wall and respiratory muscles
- development of medicines for all respiratory disorders
We oversee a wide range of studies. These include:
- single-centre, multi-centre, early stage, observational studies
- randomised controlled trials of medical, surgical interventions and medical technology

Professor Najib Rahman is the Clinical Research Network (CRN) National Specialty Lead for Respiratory Disorders.
Respiratory Translational Research Collaboration
The Respiratory Translational Research Collaboration carries out experimental and early phase research into respiratory diseases. Internationally recognised investigators work with colleagues in industry, charities and other funders.
They work together to design and deliver complex multi-centre studies. These studies help accelerate research to benefit patients with respiratory diseases. Find out more:
