Programme Grants for Applied Research - Subcommittee members

We are seeking senior applied health researchers to participate in Programme Grants for Applied Research funding subcommittees. These prestigious appointments offer experience of making funding recommendations to the NIHR for large scale, high quality programmes of research.

Deputy Chair HTA Funding Committee

The Director of the NIHR HTA Programme, Professor Hywel Williams, seeks to appoint a leader in the field of health technology assessment or related applied clinical research to undertake the duties of a Deputy Funding Committee Chair of one of the three NIHR HTA Funding Committees. The appointment is for three years in the first instance.

As Deputy Chair you will be responsible for supporting the Funding Committee Chair by chairing around one third of all applications at funding committee meetings. You will be working for one of the main HTA funding committees and making recommendations for commissioning a large portfolio of research. Other responsibilities will include contributing to the strategic development of the HTA programme.

The total time commitment to the NIHR HTA Programme through attendance at meetings, providing specific advice and undertaking background and planning work will be, on average, half a day per week.

Successful candidates will have an enthusiasm for and extensive experience of conducting health technology assessment, a sound knowledge of R&D in the NHS including methods of research, excellent communication and negotiating skills, proven ability to chair large committees effectively and a track record of research leadership.

The contract will be for three years’ in the first instance, with a review point at two years. The Department of Health and Social Care will reimburse the successful applicant’s employing institution for their time.
