We are seeking senior applied health researchers to participate in Programme Grants for Applied Research funding subcommittees. These prestigious appointments offer experience of making funding recommendations to the NIHR for large scale, high quality programmes of research.

Research Manager

At the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) we enable and deliver world-class research that transforms people’s lives, promotes economic growth and advances science. We need a motivated individual to become a Research Programme Manager and join our team at the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility.

The NIHR’s Central Commissioning Facility manages a number of research funding programmes, faculty and infrastructure. The NIHR Central Commissioning Facility/NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure is hosted by LGC Ltd, you can find out more about our organisation here.

We are looking for a research programme manager to:

  • Support, develop and deliver research funding opportunities
  • Evaluate the outputs of world-leading research
  • Become the knowledge holder in a funding area e.g. applied health research

Key accountabilities:

  • Act as the key contact point for contractual and other queries about the funding schemes; developing excellent professional relationships with award holders.
  • Lead on monitoring the performance of NIHR Research Infrastructure awards, including analysis of key metrics and development of case studies.
  • Oversee funding competitions for NIHR Research Infrastructure schemes, working with the Operations Team to ensure commissioning processes run smoothly.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of funded schemes actively identifying areas for future engagement activities or recommendations for changes.
  • Develop an awareness of research impact, contributing to relevant internal and external projects.
  • Produce reports, presentations, data analysis and background briefings as required for senior stakeholders, including responding to Parliamentary requests.
  • Plan and lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders; contribute to site visits; represent the team at relevant external meetings and conferences
