We are seeking senior applied health researchers to participate in Programme Grants for Applied Research funding subcommittees. These prestigious appointments offer experience of making funding recommendations to the NIHR for large scale, high quality programmes of research.

Research Programme Manager

Are you an organised individual with experience in social care research, looking to develop your skills at the nation's largest funder of health and care research? 

At the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) we enable and deliver world-class research that transforms people’s lives, promotes economic growth and advances science. We need a motivated individual to become a Research Programme Manager and join our team at the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility to manage an exciting new funding call focusing on social care research.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Support all aspects of research funding including researching potential call themes, advising potential applicants, revising application forms and guidance documents, reviewing and short-listing of applications for funding, coordinating and managing the peer review process, managing the funding committee, coordinating and attending funding committee meetings, providing feedback to successful and unsuccessful applicants
  • Manage a portfolio of funded projects including monitoring of scientific, technical and financial performance
  • Undertake due diligence of proposals based on critical assessment of social care-related projects, including reviewing the scientific and technical rationale, and, supported by senior members of the team, analysis of value for money, evaluation of proposed IP plans and assessment of the proposed dissemination strategy
  • Liaise regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including attending, organising and leading meetings, representing the funder’s perspective at project meetings to facilitate successful project development, and promoting and representing the funding call at external meetings
  • Contribute to strategic social care research initiatives
