NIHR Career Development Fellow Sonia Saxena discusses appendectomy study in Imperial College podcast12 February 2015
Investing in excellence
We invest in excellence. Our funding goes to the best research studies that have been shaped by the leading academics and clinicians of the nation. Funding decisions, assessed on the basis of the importance of the research question, the quality of the science, and value for money, are made by independent, expert panels and committees and include patient and public representatives.
Supporting career development
We support the training of future health researchers and research leaders through a range of national programmes and schemes and through training in the NIHR infrastructure, which also has a remit to build research capacity.
Supporting research proposals
We also fund the Research Design Service to help applied health researchers prepare proposals for submission to the NIHR and other national, peer-reviewed funding competitions. The RDS provides advice, guidance and practical support to help applicants prepare a funding application that is of high enough quality for an NIHR funding committee to recommend funding.
