The NIHR Incubator for Applied Health and Care Research Methodology was created in April 2020 to increase research capacity in methodology applied to health and care research. This will be achieved through the involvement of the community of NIHR research methodologists and stakeholders with interests in research methodology.

The Incubator is working to increase research capacity in methodology by focusing on how to attract people into rewarding careers in methodology, how to retain them, and how to support the training and development pathway for methodologists to work in emerging applications in health and social care.

The Incubator's overall objectives are to focus on understanding the current barriers and enablers to developing and maintaining a career in health and care research methodology and to consider potential interventions that complement the current NIHR offer to build research capacity in this area.

The Incubator is working with the NIHR infrastructure and funding bodies to develop increased opportunities to apply for funding for methodological research. We currently have seven active workstreams: economics, health data science, paediatric methodology, statistics, qualitative researchers, awareness raising, and internships and training.
